Blog Post #4

When I am an adult, I want to be a doctor. Specifically, I'd like to be a surgeon, but this will probably change as I get older. I'm sure I'll end up in the medical field though. The average salary for a "surgeon" of any kind is $346,373 (www.salary.com/Surgeon-Salary.html). I imagine I would spend 26% on housing, 4% on food, 5% on utilities, 1% on transportation, 4% on savings, 18% on retirement, 6% on loans, 8% on restaurants/entertainment, 16% on children, 5% on phone bills, and 7% on miscellaneous (www.learnvest.com).
I think this would balance out fine, but I have literally no idea how much things cost, like mortgage, because I'm 17, so I can't make very educated or realistic guesses. I don't have a job either, because I do chores at home that earn me enough money for food and gas, which is pretty much all I need to spend at this point in life.
My education and training to get any kind of job would likely be mostly paid for by my parents, because it's difficult to have a job while busy with school.
I think that it's much too early to even begin thinking about how I will spend $300,000 dollars a year when I make about $20 a week right now and spend money on only food and gas. I have no idea how things like taxes work, and I'm sure a lot of that possible $350,000 will go to taxes. It's not very realistic for me to allot specific amounts of imaginary money currently, so for now, I think that as long as I go to school and work hard at a good college, I will have a job that pays a safe amount.
