Positive:
During the past week of my internship, I successfully communicated with members of my group, my boss, and the man I interviewed. First, I volunteered to coordinate my group's interview of a certain guest, emailing each member of the group each day leading up to the interview to make sure they knew when the interview was, what questions they would be asking, and in what order we would be asking our questions. I also coordinated with my boss, letting her know I would be absent a day in the coming weeks, as to assure my absence will not be unexpected or problematic. Lastly, I coordinated with my interviewee, assuring that he was prepared for the interview, and knew exactly when and how to phone in to the conference call.
I also worked diligently this past week, as I thoroughly prepared for the interview. I not only researched the interviewee's career and accomplishments, but I researched the entire field of ecology and engineering that related to his job, and relevant current events. This diligent work allowed me to be fully prepared for the interview and make it as informative and meaningful as possible.
Negative:
I did not work well with others as well as possible. Although I successfully completed all of my work, and informed my teammates of what their responsibilities were, I did not ensure that they were as prepared as possible for the interview. I could've helped them by showing where they could've done their research, or by checking in with them after completing my own research so that they were as informed as I was.
Also, I was not as professional as I could've been. Although I prepared well for my interview, I did not conduct it as professional as possible, as I did not mute my phone or advise others to mute their phones, and due to this, various background noises damaged the quality of our recorded interview, and could potentially limit the material we can use from our recording. Obviously, this fault could seriously hurt my ability to succeed in my internship.
I hope to communicate as effectively as you do in my workplace and I admire the fact that you volunteered for a task that would help the whole group work more cohesively. This work skill will definitely help you in the a professional atmosphere to complete more work as a team.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you were very prepared, which is great. Working with others (and ensuring that they are doing their part without micromanaging) is difficult across the board. It takes a lot of experience to master this, and it sounds like you are learning important lessons right now! As far as the phone distraction - great observation!
