My Goals, Habits, and Allies
Goals:
Now: To finish my internship feeling that I've completed great work and have left a
good impression.
In the Future: To get a job that interests me, challenges me, and gives me benefits for my
hard work once I've graduated from college.
Habits:
Now: I have a habit of re-reading and triple checking my work to make sure there are no
mistakes. This helps when writing and editing radio shows at EarthScope.
In the Future: I want a habit of organization in the future. Sometimes when my work
is everywhere and discombobulated, I get nervous that I forgot something.
Allies:
Now: My English teacher, Ms. Greene, is always on my side and helping me with my
essays. She criticizes them honestly to help me.
In the Future: I wish to have an ally with a science teacher. Science is the field I want to enter
so they could help me find connections with other people in the field.

@Emilie: your goal related to finding a challenging job is awesome-- use this as one of your "purpose" focused criteria. Anytime a new opportunity presents itself you can ask yourself, "will this challenge me?"
ReplyDeleteAlso, your desired habit of wanting to be organized is important, especially as something you want to start doing better before leaving to college. You should consider working with Noah on this because he has a similar goal. You could share ideas for what has or has not worked for you and can even be each others' accountability partners.
Mr. Morales (the morning instructor) is a Biology teacher at San Rafael high school and he earned a science degree from Davis. He might be a great ally for you.
I have similar goals to you - doing well in my internship and getting a job in the future. Also, organization is really useful to have for school and everything; I got better at organization and it helps. And also, I'd like to have a science teacher ally, because I like science too, so that's a good idea. Good goals and everything!
ReplyDeleteEmilie, I would love to discuss your interest in science and possible career pathways that you may find interesting. I had a similar love for science at your age, but didn't really know all of the options that existed that would allow me to follow that passion until I entered college. Also, self discovery to find how your other interests may mesh with your scientific mind will also be important. Looking forward to talking with you!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am very similar to you- I am interested in writing and reporting, but am also, and more passionately, interested in science. I find that balancing the two very different fields is essential. Not only is writing essential in communicating scientific information, but literature is a relaxing and engaging activity that works a different part of the mind.
